Express Entry Draw: 341 candidates invited.

In the most recent Express Entry draw held, Canada invited 341 candidates who already had a Provincial Nomination, to apply for Permanent Residence. PNP candidates in the Express Entry Pool were awarded additional 600 points and thus, the minimum CRS score requirement for this draw was 743 to receive an ITA.

Who Can Sponsor a Relative for Canadian Immigration?

In family sponsorship program, an individual could bring his/her family members with them to Canada if these family members were processed for permanent residence as that individuals dependent. It comprises:

  • Spouse or common-law partner
  • Spouse or common-law partner’s dependent child
  • Dependent child
  • A dependent child of a dependent child

You may be able to sponsor specific relatives for Canada immigration under the Family class. The eligibility criteria for this says that the person sponsoring should be at least 18 years old, and he/she should be:

  • Canadian citizen; or
  • Permanent resident of Canada; or
  • An individual registered in Canada as an Indian under the Canadian Indian Act

If you are sponsoring your relative as a permanent resident under Canada immigration, you must:

  • Monetarily support your relative once they land in Canada
  • Should meet the basic requirements for yourself and your relatives, such as:
    1. Food
    2. Shelter
    3. Clothing
  • Make sure your relatives do not need social assistance

CRITERIA FOR FAMILY SPONSORSHIP FOR AN ELIGIBLE RELATIVE

An individual must reside in Canada for sponsoring his/her relatives unless he/she:

  • Is a citizen of Canada who lives abroad
  • Has planned of returning to Canada when their relative migrate
  • Is sponsoring:
  • Spouse; or
    1. Dependent children who have no dependent children; or
    2. Conjugal partner or common-law partner

If an individual is residing in Quebec, he/she has to fulfill Quebec’s conditions for being a sponsor after the Government approves you as a sponsor. It comprises of signing an ‘’undertaking’’ with the province. This contract binds your sponsorship.

RESPONSIBILITIES OF AN INDIVIDUAL FOR FAMILY SPONSORSHIP

When an individual is sponsoring your relative for being a permanent resident of Canada, he/she should –

  • Agree in writing to give monetary support to your individual and any other eligible relatives accompanying them:
    • Beginning on the day, they become a permanent resident
    • For up to 20 years (depending on how you are related and their age)
  • Meet set income guidelines

An agreement must be signed by the individual to whom you are sponsoring. The agreement focuses on the individuals making an effort for themselves. The agreement comprises sponsored dependent children who are 18 or older. Dependent children who are below 19 do not have to sign the agreement.

WHO IS NOT ELIGIBLE FOR SPONSORING A RELATIVE

An individual may not be able to sponsor a relative if:

  • He/she is in prison
  • Have failed to pay your alimony or child support payments
  • Have declared bankruptcy and is still involved in the same
  • Got social help except for those who are disabled
  • Failed to pay immigration bank loans, missed payments or made late payments.
  • Sponsored another relative in the past
  • Did not qualify the terms of the sponsorship agreement
  • Convicted of a violent crime, any offence against a relative or any sexual assault, depending on details of the case, such as:
    • The type of offence
    • How long ago it was
    • Whether a record suspension was issued (also known as ‘’pardons’’ in Canada)

Family reunification amidst COVID-19.

Prime Minister Trudeau announces that immediate family members of Canadian Citizens & Permanent Residents will be allowed to enter Canada effective June 8, 2020 at 11:59 PM EDT. The exemption applies to all eligible foreign nationals, irrespective of which country they are entering Canada from. They will be able to enter Canada as long as the visit is at least 15 days long and they are obligated to self-quarantine for 14 days upon entering Canada.

Manitoba invited 124 foreign nationals in the latest draw.

Manitoba invited 124 foreign nationals in the latest draw, issuing 124 Letters of Advice to Apply (LAA) for a provincial nomination. The distribution was as follows:

Skilled workers in Manitoba stream – 84 LAAs and the lowest score was 523 points; Skilled Workers Overseas stream – 21 LAAs the lowest score was 703 points. In the International Education Category Manitoba invited 19 candidates. 9 candidates out of 124 candidates invited in this draw were from the Express entry pool.

BC PNP extends the Tech Pilot to 2021.

The BC PNP Tech Pilot has been extended for another year, until June 2021 so as to provide B.C. tech employers with the continued ability to recruit and retain international talent when local skilled workers are unavailable. The Pilot will continue with the existing criteria that allows tech workers with eligible job offers in one of 29 tech occupations to continue to apply to the BC PNP to become permanent residents.

Ontario invited 699 candidates in the Human Capital Priorities Stream.

The Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program (OINP) held two draws in the Ontario’s Express Entry Human Capital Priorities Stream. 

#1: OINP issued 532 Notifications of Interest (NOIs) to candidates who possess one year or more of foreign work experience in one of the in-demand occupations for which the  range was 471-500 points. 

#2: Ontario invited 167 candidates who possess one year or more of Canadian work experience in one of the in-demand occupations for which the CRS range was 358-439 points. 

All invited candidates work in one of the nine following occupations:

  • NOC 0111 – Financial managers
  • NOC 0114 – Other administrative services managers
  • NOC 0124 – Advertising, marketing and public relations managers
  • NOC 1111 – Financial auditors and accountants
  • NOC 1114 – Other financial officers
  • NOC 1122 – Professional occupations in business management consulting
  • NOC 3012 – Registered nurses and registered psychiatric nurses
  • NOC 3124 – Other primary health practitioners
  • NOC 3132 – Dietitians and nutritionists

In total, Ontario invited 4,949 candidates in the OINP in 2020. Among them, 2,842 have been invited to the Human Capital Priorities Stream.
