Passport services resume.

Canadians who are in an urgent need of a passport can once again start to apply by mail. If Canadians are travelling in less than 30 days and/or need their passports urgently are allowed to request for an in-person appointment. The government expects a reasonable delay in processing times as things look different since the pandemic.

Spousal Open Work Permit Pilot: Officially a permanent program.

Canada is now making the Open Work Permit Pilot a permanent program. This will allow the spouses and common-law partners of Canadians to continue to work while waiting on their permanent residence status. Since the open work permits are not tied to specific employers, foreign workers can work for any employer in Canada as long as they meet the qualifications for that occupation.

Travel Ban Exemption: Update

Canada’s travel ban exemption now applies to foreign diplomats, consular officers, officials and their immediate family members. Foreign nationals who have diplomatic acceptance on their passports, a consular acceptance, or an official acceptance issued by the Chief of Protocol for Global Affairs Canada will be allowed to enter Canada.  They must be an accredited diplomat, consular officer, representative or official of a foreign country, of the United Nations or any of its agencies or of any international organization of which Canada is a member.

July 23: Invitations issued to 3,343 Canadian Experience Class (CEC) candidates. The minimum CRS score needed to receive an ITA for this draw was 445.

July 22: Canada invited 557 Express Entry Candidates to apply for PR. Only the candidates who has received a PNP nomination were invited. A tie-break rule was applied and all candidates with a CRS score of and above 687 who submitted their profile before November 11, 2019 at 8:51:21 UTC received an ITA. 

BC PNP Tech Pilot Draw

BC issued 62 invitations to apply for a provincial nomination to BC PNP Tech Pilot candidates. All Tech Pilot candidates invited by the BC PNP are required to have a job offer that is at least 1 year in duration in one of the pilot’s 29 in-demand occupations. The invitations this time around were issued to candidates in the Skilled Worker and International Graduate categories of the Express Entry BC and Skills Immigration streams. Candidates in all the subcategories needed a minimum provincial score of 80.
