People with Canada PR or citizenship can now sponsor their parents and grandparents under Parents and Grandparents (PGP) program. IRCC establishes the Canadian immigration process for Parents and Grandparents (PGP) program.
On 5th October 2020, the Immigration, Refugee and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) announced the 2020 Parents and Grandparents (PGP) program to reunite the families. Individuals holding Canada PR and Canadian citizens who are willing to sponsor their parents and grandparents for travelling to Canada can now submit an expression of interest for sponsoring through an online application. The PGP program application process will start from 13th October 2020 and end on 3rd November 2020.
To ensure equal, transparent, and fair opportunity for the candidates, Immigration, Refugee and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) will randomly choose the potential sponsors. Once the sponsors are selected, they will receive an invitation to submit the online application. The potential sponsors selected will have sixty days to submit the online application.
IRCC will provide accommodation to individuals with disabilities who cannot use the online portal. These individuals can submit a request to sponsor using an alternative medium, a paper copy, a large print or Braille. To make this available, these individuals have to contact IRCC’s customer support until 3rd November 2020.
IRCC understands that due to the COVID-19 pandemic, many individuals are impacted financially, and hence it is introducing a temporary public policy. This policy will reduce the wages for the 2020 tax year to the minimum necessary salaries, instead of the minimum essential wages plus 30 percent.
The Canadian Government understands that families must stay together in this situation of COVID crises. The 2020 Parents and Grandparents Program’s launching expands the Government’s initiative of prioritizing the approval of 49,000 family sponsorship applications by 31st December 2020, just as a declaration of a process to reunite more families and favour merciful cases inside the current border limitations.
A maximum 10,000 PGP application will be accepted as a part of the 2020 Parents and Grandparents program. The doors to the new intake for parents and grandparents (PGP) program will be opened in 2021 by IRCC, wherein a maximum of 30,000 new applications will be accepted.
The Government of Canada believes that it is crucial to reunite families and keep them together in these difficult times. The Parents and Grandparents program will be an exceptional pathway to reunite the families of the individuals with Canada PR and Canada’s citizens. The PGP program encourages families settled in Canada to apply for the program and call their parents and grandparents to stay with them. The PGP program process is a critical component of the Canadian immigration system. PGP program invites, retains and integrates the individuals having Canada PR and their parents and grandparents. The same is the case with the individuals having Canadian citizenship.
