Apart from being known for their politeness, which has been a target of many jokes, memes, gifs and movies, Canada is also known for being consistently ranked as one of the happiest countries in the world. To be featured in the World Happiness Report, countries have to rank high on six necessary factors of well-being, including income, freedom to make life choices and absence of corruption, trust, life expectancy, social support and generosity. To tip things further in favour of Canada, it’s full of diversity, nature, and provides a warm and wonderful home for immigrant families from around the world.
If you wish to migrate to Canada, there are multiple options available to you. One of the easiest and quickest way to immigrate is through the express entry program.
What is the Express Entry program?
Express Entry is an online immigration application system that allows people to submit a profile online. Candidates are assigned a Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score, and those with the highest scores are invited to apply for permanent residency. Once you have the PR, you can live permanently in Canada and work in a skilled job in your respective sector.
Which Immigration Programs fall under Express Entry?
- The Skilled Worker Program: If you’re a skilled worker with foreign work experience, you can apply to immigrate to Canada under this program.
- The Skilled Trades Program: If you’re qualified in a skilled trade, this program would be the right fit for you.
- The Canadian Experience Class: If you’re a skilled worker with Canadian work experience, this program could be your ticket to permanent residence.
- Many Provincial Nominee Programs also use Express Entry as a platform.
How does the express entry program work?
Determine your eligibility
Each program has different eligibility criteria and requirements. Candidates are chosen based on the skills they bring and their ability to contribute to the country’s economy. Many free tools are available online that can help you find out if you’re eligible to apply for express entry program. There will be questions about your age, language ability, education, work experience, and job offers if any. Based on your answers, you will be able to determine which programs you may be eligible to apply to.
If you’re not sure or find the process confusing, it’s better to seek the help of licensed, regulated immigration consultants, who will take care of every little detail and make your application the strongest it can be. Once a consultant gauges your eligibility, they will be able to give you detailed instructions on your next steps and also help you with filling your online profile. If you meet the requirements, you will be sent an invitation to apply (ITA) to immigrate. You will have 60 days to provide all the documents. If you fail to do so, your application will expire, and you will have to go through the entire process again.
Prepare your documents
There are a few documents you need to complete your application. For instance, language test results. You may take either the IELTS or CELPIP English language proficiency test to prove your eligibility. Some documents may be submitted after you receive the ITA. For example, a medical report, proof of funds, a police verification report from all the countries you have lived for six months or more in the last ten years, and work experience letters and so on.
Submit your profile
Your Express Entry profile will include all the information about you. Based on your profile, you will receive a score. If you’re eligible, your application will be moved into the common pool of candidates. While in this pool, your profile will be ranked against others in the pool. The more points you have, the better your chances of being invited to apply.
What to do while you’re in the pool?
If you haven’t been invited to apply for PR, it could be because of your low scores. So while you’re in the pool, works towards improving your CRS score. You can do this by submitting new information whenever possible. For example, if you gave the CELPIP test again and got better marks, you can add that information; or say you got a job offer from a local Canadian employer.
Get your ITA and apply for PR
If you make the cut-off list of scores, which are periodically released by IRCC, you will receive the invitation to apply. Once you submit your PR application, you could be getting your PR card in less than six months or so. How exciting is that?
