On February 1, 2023, IRCC held a PNP-based Express Entry Draw in which 893 candidates received invitations. The rank required to be invited to apply (ITA) was 893 or above. And the CRS Cut-Off Score for this draw was 733. This was the first program-specific Express Entry draw since July 2022. Canada has already invited 11,893 Express Entry candidates in 2023.

Express Entry candidates who received invitations in this draw were already nominated through the Provincial Nominee Programs. PNP helps Canadian provinces to attract candidates that support their local population and labour market goals. With the exception of Quebec and Nunavut, most of Canada’s provinces and territories have PNPs in line with Express Entry.

Around 239,415 Express Entry Profiles are in the pool as of February 1, 2023.

Why PNP Only Express Entry Draw?

IRCC started conducting these types of Targeted PNP-Based Express Entry Draws since Round #139, held on March 18, 2020. IRCC has temporarily paused draws for CEC and FSWP candidates to reduce the Express Entry backlog, which was exacerbated by the pandemic.

Many candidates were expecting another big draw with 5,500 invitations, as happened on January 11, 2023, and January 18, 2023. This would’ve reduced the cut-off score for the all-program Express Entry draws below 490.

Canada’s immigration department also mentioned that targeted Express Entry draws could start in the spring of 2023, most likely in the month of March.
