What is Canada’s Targeted Express Entry?

Canada’s Targeted Express Entry helps skilled workers, international students, and individuals with work experience in specific occupations and specific skills to immigrate to Canada. These are six categories of candidates that are eligible for Targeted Express Entry in 2023.

  • French-language proficiency
  • Healthcare Occupations
  • Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) occupations

  • Agriculture and agri-food occupations

Targeted Express Entry for French Speakers

Canada’s Express Entry program offers a streamlined pathway to obtain Canadian permanent residency within a relatively short time frame of 4-8 months.

Basic Eligibility for Francophone Immigration

The basic eligibility requirements for Targeted Express Entry for French Speakers are as follows:

Language Proficiency: Applicants must demonstrate proficiency in the French language by providing French-language test results that show a minimum score of 7 in all four language abilities according to the Niveaux de compétence linguistique canadiens (NCLC) Benchmarks.

Accepted Languages: You can take any of the approved language tests including TEF Canada (Test d’évaluation de français) and TCF Canada (Test de connaissance du français).

If you qualify for one of these three programs, you can also apply for the Provincial Nominee Programs through Express Entry. If you are nominated, you will receive up to 600 extra points and will get an invitation faster.

Canada Express Entry Process for French Speakers

To determine your eligibility as a French-speaking immigrant under the Express Entry program, you need to meet the following criteria:

Step 1: Language Proficiency Test

Take a recognized language proficiency test in French, such as TEF (Test d’évaluation de français) or TCF (Test de connaissance du français). These tests will assess your proficiency in the French language.

Step 2: Express Entry Profile

Create an Express Entry Profile: Create an online Express Entry profile on the official Canadian government website. Provide accurate and up-to-date information about your education, work experience, language proficiency, and other relevant details.

Step 3: Maximize Your CRS Score

To improve your Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score, consider maximizing points through various means. This can include obtaining a Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) nomination, securing a valid job offer in Canada, or enhancing your language skills.

Step 4: Receive ITA in a Targeted Express Entry Draw

Wait for a targeted Express Entry draw specifically for French-speaking immigrants. If you receive an Invitation to Apply (ITA) in this draw, you can proceed with the permanent residency application process.

Step 5: Application

Submitting an Application: Once you receive an ITA, you will be given a specified timeframe to submit a complete application for permanent residency. Make sure to compile all the required documents accurately and submit them within the given timeframe.

Step 6: Medical Exam and Police Verification (PCC)

After submitting your application, you may need to undergo a medical examination to meet the health requirements for immigration. Additionally, security checks will be conducted as part of the application process.

Step 7: Processing Stage

The relevant immigration authorities will process your permanent residency application. The processing time may vary, and you can track the status of your application online.

Step 8: Confirmation of Permanent Residence (CoPR)

IRCC makes the final decision on your Targeted Express Entry application and you receive a Confirmation of Permanent Residence (COPR).

Step 9: Fly to Canada

After that, candidates can move to Canada as a permanent resident.
